What We Can Do to Help with Fractured Crowns

Crowns are a great way to restore your smile and help you maintain good dental hygiene. They can be made with various materials like metal alloys, porcelain, and resin.

These materials are strong and resilient to wear and tear, but unfortunately, they aren’t as strong as natural teeth. Because they aren’t as strong as natural teeth, sometimes they can break, chip, and crack.

The best way to take care of your crown is to conduct good oral hygiene on a daily basis. We also recommend avoiding hard and sticky foods as these foods have a tendency to damage crowns and prematurely wear them down. However, we understand that there is still a possibility that they can come loose or be damaged even when taking these precautions, and for that reason, we offer methods to repair a damaged crown.

Damaged Crowns Can Be Repaired

Depending on how your crown has been damaged changes the way it will need to be repaired. Most often, we see fractures crowns at our office and are well prepared to fix them. The first step in fixing a fractured crown is identifying the severity of damage.

In cases where the crown is only slightly chipped, we are able to use dental bonding to sculpt the missing piece. For this process, we will apply a small amount of dental bonding to your crown and shape it to the right dimensions. Once the shape is created, we’ll use an ultraviolet light to cure the bonding.

For more serious cases of damage, it may be necessary to create a new crown for you. If you have recently damaged a crown and would it to be repaired, we can do that for you. Give us a call at our office and set up an appointment so that we can assist you with the process.
